Thor a.k.a. Chris Hemsworth

Christopher Hemsworth was born on August 11, 1983, in Melbourne, Australia. His mother Leonie, is an English teacher, and father Craig Hemsworth is a social-services counselor. Chris is the middle of three children of his parents. His older brother is Luke and younger brother is Liam, they both are actors.

According to him, his spent most of his childhood in Melbourne but probably his most vivid memories were up there in the Australian OutBack in Bulman, Northern Territory, with crocodiles and buffalo.

He studied at the Heathmont College. Growing up, he spent much of his time with his brothers, Luke and Liam. Surfing was his No. 2 passion, which his siblings also shared, but Hemsworth knew that his first love was acting.

In 2002, Hemsworth starred in two episodes of fantasy television series Guinevere Jones as King Arthur. He also made an appearance in soap opera series Neighbours and one episode of Marshall Law.

In 2004, he auditioned for the Australian soap opera Home and Away role of Robbie Hunter, but did not receive the part. The role was played by Jason Smith. Later, Hemsworth was subsequently recalled for the part of Kim Hyde and moved to Sydney to join the cast.

Hemsworth was a contestant on the fifth season of Dancing with the Stars Australia, partnered with professional dancer Abbey Ross. The season premiered on 26 September 2006, and after six weeks, Hemsworth was eliminated. And after appearing in 171 episodes of the series Home and Away, he left the cast as Kim Hyde, in July 2007.

In 2009, Hemsworth portrayed James T. Kirk’s father, George Kirk, in the opening scenes of J. J. Abrams’ film Star Trek. That year, he also played the character Kale in the thriller A Perfect Getaway.

In 2010, first time he played a lead role, in the film Cash. The film’s director, Stephen Milburn Anderson, said Hemsworth had only been in the United States for six weeks when he had auditioned for the role, recalling, “Here’s a guy who is young, has the right look, is a very good actor and, let’s face it, he’s beautiful. So I say, we need to get this guy in. I was very impressed”. The Hollywood Reporter named Hemsworth as one of the young male actors who are “pushing – or being pushed” onto the Hollywood “A-List”.

Hemsworth was dating the Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, known for her roles in Snakes on a Plane and Fast Five. After three months of relationship, they got married on Christmas weekend in Australia, in 2010.

In 2012, he starred in the horror film The Cabin in the Woods, which was shot shortly after the release of Star Trek but went unreleased until 2012. It led Hemsworth to audition for the role of Thor at Joss Whedon‘s insistence. Also that year, he starred opposite Kristen Stewart in the film Snow White and the Huntsman. He won the Teen Choice Award and the Peoples’s Choice Award for the film. That year, Hemsworth and Pataky welcomed their baby girl, India. Hemsworth said, “Having a baby has made everything else less important, and it’s just wonderful.”

“It was just a name we liked, I always kind of liked Indie or Indiana for a boy, and she liked India. We sort of went, ‘Oh well, whether it’s a boy or girl, that will decide.’ It just seemed to fit.” Chris Hemsworth explaind newborn daughter India’s name to E! News.

Liam Hemsworth also auditioned for the lead in the superhero film Thor. Both Hemsworth brothers went up against super stiff competition. But director Kenneth Brannagh chose the older Hemsworth for the role. Tom Hiddleston also auditioned for the role, but ultimately played Loki.

Hemsworth said he put on 20 pounds of muscle to play Thor.

In 2014, Hemsworth was the star of the Australian Football League‘s Everything’s Possible campaign. He donated fees for his involvement to the Australian Children Foundation. That year, he and Pataky welcomed their twin boys, Tristan and Sasha.

In 2015, Hemsworth starred in director Michael Mann’s action thriller Blackhat, and also co-starred in the comedy film Vacation. His last 2015 film was In the Heart of the Sea, based on the book of the same name by Nathaniel Philbrick. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, he revealed that to prepare for the role of starving sailors, the cast was put on a diet of 500–600 calories a day to lose weight.

In 2016, Hemsworth reprised the role of Eric the Huntsman in The Huntsman: Winter’s War.

He was going to reprise his role as George Kirk in the fourth film of the rebooted Star Trek film series also, but in August 2018 he left the project after contract negotiations fell through.
